Raf Simons show seemed not so much like a show but more like a view into the future of clothing, the fusion of synthetic fibers and natural ones, how the use of neoprene type materials and unconventional juxtapostions could create new styles of clothing. It wasn't fantasy, but a sober prediction of what clothes could be. And i'm glad to see that skinny suit pants were GONE! finally they're a little baggy.

Lately iconic American clothing is back in fashion as you may have seen or read (my girlfriend sent me a great article about it, thank you). Junya Watanabe's collection takes the whole visual range of the hunter (camo, quilting, all-weather fabrics, and shooting patches) and has dissected them into what i think are some of the coolest clothes this season. it doesn't seem overdone at all, and even though the materials are really bulky the models still keep a slim silhouette. i haven't been digging Junya's designs lately but I'm impressed with these, excellent deconstruction, i really like these clothes a lot.

I haven't gotten back to this blog in a while but i need to be diligent and stop procastinating, get my act together. I've spent part of afternoon checking out the new Lanvin and Junya Watanabe men's collections, these two guys have me psyched. Post is coming up today!

"The Seven Samurai" along with "Ikiru" is one Kurosawa's greatest films. This film really is a high point in cinema. Highly recommended.

Sorry for the long hiatus people. It's been like a ghost town here.
I promised myself that i would post everyday this week, i'm such a habitual procrastinater and i need to stop!

Well this week i bought a sweet pair of real good knock-off Wayfarers in town (classic black). But i like Chris Mendoza's design on these pairs. The details look like heiroglyphics.

I like what he did to his shirt, I want to try it out. It seems there's stitching around the holes, might need some help on that. I like his glasses too, I need a new pair.

What pisses me off about Costa Rica are the disappointing stores that are in the malls, with lots of overpriced goods filled with preppy ill-dressed Costa Ricans. Even worse there's no boutiques or stores outside of the malls of any interest.

Like my girlfriend wrote, a fashion holocaust. People are friendly though and I love it here, it's my home.

But thrift stores are amazing , and likewise the people that work in them . They're always very nice, and you feel like taking some coffee one day in a thermos, accompanied by cookies and condense milk, and hang out. Old nice grannies are always in them too, I love old nice grannies.

Making fun of the Tokyo Metro Posters popping around. I'll translate them into Spanish make some stickers and post them up. I remember I was travelling in the Aurora bus (almost San Joaquin) and there were these two guys sitting in front of me. They were so wasted, Cacique coming out of their pores and stinking up the place. I was looking out the window, and then the not so wasted guy starts elbowing and punching the other guy for some reason. Then i looked down and...*Pinto, pinto all over the floor. It didn't come out of a lunch box...

Reviving Disco One Bathroom at a Time

Ever since I saw this picture I've thought of putting a disco ball, concealed speakers, and lights into my bathroom. It's weird, kooky, and would be pretty fun for the house.
The modus operandi is as follows:

1. Subject would enters into what seems a regular bathroom with fuschia towels.

2. What this person doesn't know is that there's a switch outside the door that I control.

3. This switch is flicked on.

4. Lights go off.

5. Disco lights turn on, lights start spinning, disco ball turns on, and Shake Your Booty by KC & The Sunshine Band is played.

6. Arm pumping and high fives all around.

A short profile of the designers:

Hokuto Katsui : studied at Parsons School of Design in New York and Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. Moved back to Japan and founded Mint Designs.

Nao Yagi : Graduate of Doshisha University in Fine Arts and of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. Co-founded Mint Designs.

Founded Mint Designs in July 2001. Debuted their first runway show at Tokyo Collection in October 2002. Designed the costumes for the film Casshern, which opened in 2004. Won the 7th Moet et Chandon New Designer’s Award in 2005.
